This Pond Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us! May 7 Written By Eli Ridgway The new Resident It all started with a large cow moose who decided to park herself just behind the Ridgway cabin, perhaps for shelter from the wind or from wolves. As any good moose should, she rested and then went exploring. The Elk Creek Pond Lo and behold, the moose found the pond that Elk Creek Ranchers use to cool down on those hot summer days. Each spring the pond has been occupied by a nesting pair of geese who appreciate the pond's offering of pond grasses and algae varietals. The Encounter The moose decided that she too could join the feast, but she was not welcomed by the geese. Please note the goose in the bottom right who seems ready the mix things up. All’s Well that Ends Well The moose didn't feel that threatened, especially because she was joined by a a much more peaceful Mallard Duck couple. (Upper right hand corner.) Things did calm down the next day when the moose did what a moose should do. It finished all of the algae it could reach and wandered further up the creek. Eli Ridgway http://eliridgway.com
