Glissading on Gardner Headwall!

Summer camp for teens in the mountains glissading on snow

the Beartooth Highway

Each First Session at Elk Creek Ranch, and rare Second Sessions when the snow permits, we load up the Ranch vans and drive to the highest point on the Beartooth Highway. At over 10,000 feet the mountains feature large glaciers. Glissading is basically sliding down the steep slopes on your belly, back, or tush.

The Beartooth Highway, often called “the most beautiful drive in America,” winds through the heart of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, reaching heights of nearly 11,000 feet. This iconic mountain pass is a gateway to adventure, offering sweeping vistas of alpine meadows, glacial lakes, and rugged peaks. It’s more than just a road—it’s an experience that feels like traveling through the clouds. For our campers, the Beartooth Highway isn’t just a scenic route; it’s a connection to the wild beauty of the Rocky Mountains, where summer days are filled with exploration, breathtaking views, and the spirit of adventure that defines Elk Creek Ranch.
